Your First Session
Understanding the Work
It is my honor and privilege to work together with my clients on moving toward their unique wellness goals. Below is a description of my values, philosophy and approach to this work.
Kindness, curiosity, authenticity, inclusivity, respect, and collaboration are some of the deepest values I bring to my work and to each client.
Much of healing happens not in isolation, but in relationship. The values named above support a balanced and healthy relationship between myself and my clients. Being seen, heard and appreciated in our own uniqueness is essential to the healing process and my intention is to provide a safe place where each person I work with feels seen, heard and appreciated as well as having their needs met for each session together.
Our first session together will involve “chair time” & “table time”. Recurring sessions will vary with this. “Chair time” is when we go over your intake form, discuss your health goals and needs for each session, and review treatment options. “Table time” is the time you will spend on the table. Not all, but many clients have more than just physical complaints they wish to share about and providing the “chair time” and space to do this is part of my practice. Whether you are in the chair or on the table, it is all part of our session together, working toward your personal WellBeing.
All the Layers of Being
We are multi-faceted beings consisting of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual “layers” of the self. In the yogic tradition, these layers are called the koshas. More contemporarily, this is what we call the body-mind-spirit connection. In order for deep and lasting healing and transformation to occur, it is helpful to consider (and often, address) all these layers of our being at some level in order to facilitate an integrated and balanced sense of Self. Often what is occurring in the body as physical symptomology, has a mental, emotional &/or spiritual component that is keeping it “locked” in place, sometimes for months or years. As Bessel van der Kolk, renowned trauma researcher and author of The Body Keeps the Score, states; “The issues are in the tissues”.
My intention again, is to provide a safe and healing space where these other layers can be explored, if the client is interested in and at whatever level the client is comfortable doing so. And of course, if a client only wishes to address the physical components, that is what we will address. Self-agency is always prioritized.
