Metta is a Pali word which has been most popularly translated as “loving-kindness” but is more accurately translated as “friendliness” or “benevolence”. Metta meditation is a formal practice to cultivate this quality of heart that originates in Buddhism. During this Month of Metta, we will explore several practices and the cultivation of Metta as well as it’s complementary practice of compassion, specifically self-compassion and the research behind this powerful quality of being. Compassion arises when metta or loving-kindness meets suffering (difficulty/pain/stress etc.).
Mindfulness practice is one of not only training the mind, but the heart as well. The practice of Metta is foundational to cultivating a kind and compassionate heart that is capable of meeting all the challenges of our lives and the world more skillfully and with grace.

The Details
We will meet online via ZOOM on February 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th at 6pm. Sessions will last approximately 60-75 minutes. (These will be recorded and sent out the next day so you do NOT have to be present to join us!)
Each session will include a short talk, a formal meditation practice, and time for questions/reflections/sharing. You will receive a recording of the meditation after each session that you can use to practice in the time between sessions.
This is a great opportunity to deepen your hearts capacity for care, kindness, and compassion while in the support of like-minded community.
